Block printed tablecloth, crafted entirely by hand by expert artisans in Jaipur.
This special tablecloth, with its beautiful and intricate floral pattern, was designed by us at NAMA and crafted entirely by hand by expert artisans in Jaipur, using the ancient art of block printing.
Block printing has been practiced in India for centuries, but it was during Mughal rule—some 500 years ago—that this method really flourished. The process of creating our block-printed tablecloths is laborious, involving many steps, each of which is undertaken by a dedicated artisan.
First, the intricate design for the tablecloth is drawn onto a piece of paper, after which it is meticulously hand-carved into a woodblock. Woodblocks are the cornerstone of the entire process and can take up to 15 days to be perfected. Block-carving is in itself an art and demands an exceptional level of craftsmanship, typically passed down from one generation to the next.
Once the blocks are ready, the master printer takes over and prepares the colors that will be used for printing. Each colour is then carefully and repeatedly stamped along the length of the fabric. The slight visual irregularities that result from this manual process create a totally unique artistic effect.
Our tablecloths are the perfect way to add a touch of colour—and a touch of India—to your dinner table.
