100% wool green-blue scarf, tie-dyed by hand using the ancient shibori technique.

Derived from the Persian shal, shawls have a long history of use in India, serving both the rich and the poor as a defense against the cold. References to shawls and scarves—as well as to weaving—can be found in ancient Sanskrit texts such as the Ramayana, the Mahābhārata, and the Atharva Veda, which date back thousands of years. With knowledge of the weaving craft passed down intergenerationally, Indian weavers are renowned for their rare skill and technical precision. Each region has its own unique varieties of shawls and scarves, shaped by local history and culture.

Your beautiful wool scarf was woven in the region of Kashmir, whose weaving practices span centuries. While weaving technologies have evolved with the times, the rich history of the craft is still reflected in this special item. The scarf’s striking motifs were achieved using an ancient tie-dyeing technique called shibori, which involves threading patterns into the fabric and then pot-dyeing it by hand. The scarf’s emerald green and sapphire blue colors create a visually stunning effect.
