This beautiful handmade platter with its delicate orange and white flower design was made in collaboration with South African ceramic artist Gemma Orkin.
Gemma’s work is inspired by her love of nature and its effortless integration of colour and design. The handmade platters and bowls in our collection are infused with this love, since they are all based on the vygie flower, a flower indigenous to South Africa.
Each platter is a totally unique work of art, handmade and hand painted by Gemma. No mounds or wheels are used: each piece is built up by hand in coils, which is a lengthy but rewarding process.
Gemma comes from a family of artists and has been creating ceramics for 30 years. She says she “eats, sleeps and dreams ceramics” and feels lucky to have been able to create a career out of her passion. Gemma has always been drawn to the old-fashioned charm of ceramics, finding ceramic forms uncomplicated, timeless, and beautiful.
This fun and gorgeous platter will add a splash of colour to your home and make a wonderful addition to any room or table.
