This colourful and elegant Itawuli bath sheet was designed and woven by Mungo, a team of artisanal master weavers based in Plettenberg Bay, South Africa. Itawuli means towel in isiXhosa, one of South Africa’s national languages.
Consisting of 100% cotton, this flat-weave towel with its intricate zig zag design and bold colours, is inspired by African landscapes and heritage. Each towel is individually handled and woven on an antique 100-year-old loom to produce a gorgeous product that will stand the test of time. This iconic and versatile towel is highly absorbent and quick drying. It can be used as a bath, pool, or beach towel, or even as a picnic blanket. Its uses are endless!
From design to completion, the journey of each Mungo product passes through the hands of a highly-skilled team of weavers, inspectors, and seamstresses, ensuring that every single product is quality-controlled and expertly finished. Committed to ethical trading, Mungo sources only the highest quality natural fibres and is certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard.
Mungo’s mission is to manufacture unique and beautiful products while simultaneously providing sustainable opportunities for the labour market and care for the natural environment. To this end, each year a portion of Mungo’s annual turnover goes towards projects and initiatives that seek to benefit and empower the Plettenberg Bay area.
