Our handwoven placemats are crafted entirely by hand by artisans in Namibia. They are woven from strands of palm leaf, using the coiled weaving technique.
Weaving is an ancient craft that has formed an integral part of African culture for thousands of years, preserved by the transmission of skills and knowledge from generation to generation. The diverse styles, patterns, and shapes we see are often unique to specific tribes and have come to reflect each community's location, resources, culture, and needs.
Weaving provides much-needed additional income for the rurally based craftspeople who create our placemats and it is an important source of independence and empowerment for them and their families. In many cases, their only source of income is the earnings they generate from weaving.
Our timeless placemats are a beautiful way to add warmth and texture to your table.

NAMA is a mother–daughter range, born of a shared love of all things beautiful.
Our collection is inspired by the extraordinary world we live in, by the places we have been, and by the people we have met—and the nuggets of beauty and magic we have found—along the way.
Thank you for sharing in the NAMA story.
With love, Natasha and Mathy
