Handmade in Malawi by artisans skilled in glasswork and woodturning, our Blantyre Jar is the exquisite manifestation of indigenous techniques, artisanal aptitude and imaginative design.
These unique jars are made from upcycled wine bottles and topped with handmade, mahogany lids. The luxurious lids are crafted using a process called woodturning that dates back to the 14th century and each lid is made specifically to fit each jar such that no two are identical.
In Malawi, artisans are regarded as a lower-status social group learning their craft from their family, the community in which they live, or through government-funded initiatives. They are, however, an integral part of Malawi’s heritage and cultural identity, ensuring that traditional knowledge and skills are passed down from one generation to the next.
These jars are perfect for storing items in your kitchen or bathroom or simply as beautiful display pieces in your living room, bringing a little piece of magic to your home.
